Our philosophy
Five Oceans believes in a concentrated, non-index approach to building portfolios of listed global companies. We formulate these portfolios using these philosophies:

• We look to buy good businesses at a good price.
  
  
• We will predominantly use hedges and short sell positions to protect the portfolio and reduce volatility.
  
  
• Over the long term, we consider that superior risk-adjusted returns are generated through an emphasis on high conviction stock selection and attention to capital protection rather than by following a share index.
  
  
• We believe in valuation analysis that can provide a different view from the market on either a company's profitability or growth. Our stock research is the key generator of insight at both the stock and portfolio level.
  
  
• A function of our team depth and investment process is our ability to pursue global investment opportunities.
  
  
• Five Oceans builds portfolios through selecting global companies based on extensive fundamental research undertaken by an internationally experienced investment team that are combined in a thoughtful way to manage risk.

• We also believe that an understanding and management of sustainability criteria is critical to a company's well being and a good barometer of management.
